Kevin Sleep
Lighting Designer
Kevin graduated with a degree in Geography and then put it to good use by working in theatre lighting.
Some of his West End credits include: The House of Bernarda Alba, Up on the Roof, The Foreigner, Eartha Kitt in Concert, Blues in the Night, Other People’s Money and the original production of Death and the Maiden.
Over the years he has lit many productions around the country in many of the major repertory theatres including The Royal Exchange, Manchester, The Crucible, Sheffield, West Yorkshire Playhouse, the Lyceum, Edinburgh, the Royal Court Theatre and Lyric Hammersmith as well as other favourites such as Greenwich Theatre, The Bush, Pitlochry Festival Theatre.
His opera design credits include: the premiere of Greek (Munich and Edinburgh and then at the Coliseum for the English National Opera); Wexford Opera Festival; Rigoletto (Welsh National Opera small-scale tour); Eugene Onegin (Scottish Opera Go Round); the premiere of 63: Dream Palace (Munich) and Pilgrim’s Progress for the Royal Northern College of Music Manchester.
From early 2003 until Oct 2021 Kevin was Head of Lighting for English National Opera. Revival Lighting Designer for: Manon (Barcelona, Chicago, Buenos Aires, Dallas); La bohème (English National Opera and Barcelona); Tosca, Così fan Tutte and Rigoletto, Xerxes and Carmen (English National Opera); Alcina (Oviedo, Spain) Satyagraha (English National Opera and The Met, New York); La Clemenza de Tito (Danish Nat. Opera, Copenhagen and ENO).
In December 2021 Kevin took up the post of Head of Lighting for the Royal Shakespeare Company based in Stratford-upon-Avon.
